My Story
I started tiling back in 1985 for my brother. As I was young and new to tiling, I thought the work was dirty and not good for my nails. I left tiling to have my children but returned in 1995 after my children were in school. I was introduced to an Estate Agent after a handyman took my card, because he liked the fireplace I’d tiled and I was able to do some work for him.
This gave me the confidence I needed to start prepping my own work - in other words - working for myself.
I learnt to rip out all old tiling and repair and re-tile walls, as well as install completely new tiling. I am not able to do plumbing, but I am happy to recommend someone if needed.
In 2007 I fancied a change, so I began teaching Tiling at West Herts College (WHC) in Hemel Hempstead. I missed working for myself and found college students very challenging to teach. My favourite groups were the ex-cons as they were eager and very entertaining. Also, the Saturday groups were good as most were already in the building trade, just expanding their skill set. I often thought I learned from them too, almost like a skill exchange, only I was being paid.
As a lecturer I was able to get free training (as part of my CPD Certificate), so I did a plastering course which taught me a lot. So, I have a lot to thank for my days at WHC.
In 2010 I went back to running my own tiling and painting company.
I’m confident that I can deliver a quality job which will last for years. I am a wealth of knowledge on what works and, more importantly, what doesn’t.
I look forward to working with you and hearing about your project.
